What is the purpose of the show cause letter?

Recently, someone in the office engaged in misconduct. HR issued a show cause letter to her. May I know what the purpose of the show cause letter is?

Its purpose is to inform the employee of specific concerns or allegations regarding their behavior, performance, or any other issue that requires clarification. The letter provides the employee with an opportunity to respond and present their side of the story before any further disciplinary action is taken.

A show cause letter is issued by an employer to an employee requiring the employee to explain (to show cause) why they should not face disciplinary action for an allegation/allegations of misconduct.
