Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that the National Security Council (MKN) would abolish the ruling allowing only 30% of employees to work from office in Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) areas on April 1, 2021.

The MKN also announced that from April 1, all private sector companies could operate at 100% capacity for management and operations support group in CMCO/PKPB areas.

The minister said the MKN decided this course of action after the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) recommendation to allow management and supervisory groups of companies to function at maximum capacity.

The private sector can have 100% of their employees working from the office.

Ismail Sabri said one reason for the decision is that the work from home order has been tough to implement at manufacturing businesses, as they cannot conduct their operations remotely.

He added that manufacturing operations often involve complex and technical processes that require different management and supervisory members to work together at the same time.

The minister said that the directive is effective April 1, 2021, and further information on the standard operating procedure (SOP) is available on the MKN website.

Ismail Sabri stated the office attendance level for civil servants would be subject to the Public Service Department's circulars and directors. The private sector can have 100% of their employees working from the office for the management, supervisory, operations, and support divisions.

Extension of CMCO and RMCO States

The MKN announced a two-week extension of the CMCO or PKPB in these areas:

  • Johor,
  • Kelantan,
  • Kuala Lumpur,
  • Penang,
  • Selangor

It will begin from April 1 (Thursday) until April 14 2021 (Wednesday. The CMCO in Sarawak will proceed effective March 30 until April 12.

The Recovery MCO (RMCO / PKPP) will also be extended for another two weeks for these areas:

  • Kedah,
  • Labuan,
  • Melaka,
  • Negeri Sembilan,
  • Pahang,
  • Perak,
  • Perlis
  • Putrajaya,
  • Terengganu.

There is also another two-week extension for inter-district and interstate travel restrictions.

Ismail Sabri cited a study by Universiti Teknologi Mara that found almost 97% of the public wore face masks in public, 90% of the population comply with social distancing rules, and 88% routinely wash or sanitise their hands.

He added that the numbers are good indicators and show that the people are starting to realise the importance of SOP compliance to keep themselves, their families and the community safe from the pandemic.
