AEON Co (M) Bhd and AEON BiG (M) Sdn Bhd (AEON Malaysia) recently shared the good news when they announced the implementation of a minimum salary increase for their Grade G employees.

The wage increase commenced on January 1, and the employees' basic salaries were raised from RM1,200 to RM1,500 per month and do not include any bonuses or allowance.

Employee wellbeing as a priority

AEON Malaysia stated that employee wellbeing has always been a top priority for the company and that it appreciates the Human Resources Ministry's advice. As a result, AEON Malaysia's new minimum wage takes into effect sooner than the government's suggested deadline of the end of 2022.

Dr Kasuma Satria Mat Jadi, AEON Malaysia's director of corporate communications and chief human resources officer, said that they are grateful for the opportunity to implement the increased minimum wage for the Grade G staff.

He said the pay raise is in line with the AEON Sayap Bagimu sustainability project, which strives to give stakeholders, especially those in need, opportunity, encouragement, and assistance.

AEON Malaysia made the decision in their best interests and welfare to assist in alleviating living costs as well as in support of the government's proposals, which resulted in the swift implementation.

AEON Warriors

According to Dr Kasuma, about 13,000 employees of various grades are working for AEON Malaysia around the country. The employees are the company's most precious assets and are known as 'AEON Warriors.'

AEON Malaysia's primary concern is for its employees' wellbeing and livelihood. It will continue to introduce the latest retail innovations through AEON Warriors to stay competitive in the face of current challenges and, most importantly, for the convenience of its customers.

Dr Kasuma added that the company would remain firm and united in its efforts to generate the country's economy.

Prior to this, on February 1, 2020, the minimum wage was last changed at the introduction of the 2020 Budget, with a salary increase from RM1,100 to RM1,200 per month.

The endeavour by AEON to implement a minimum wage increase is in line with efforts to advocate for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on creating good jobs and economic growth.

It encourages long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, as well as full and productive employment and decent working conditions for all.
